Conservancy’s 2013 Spring Calendar

Sat., April 20 — Come join your fellow TLRC members and friends for our spring Towpath trash pick-up. We’ll meet at Mt. Moriah cemetery at 11:00 a.m. and spread out along the Towpath from there. Although there will be a winter’s worth of debris to collect, with a robust “litter police” squad, we should get the job done quite quickly. Afterward we’ll gather for a bit of socializing and lunch at the Rowland Cafe, together with members of the Bernt Balchen Sons of Norway Lodge and the Men of Bethel, who will be cleaning up their respective stretches of the Towpath. Let’s see who can fill the most trash bags!
*And after lunch there will still be time to visit the Earth Day celebration at PPL’s Environmental Learning Center; while you’re there don’t forget to stop by TLRC’s display.

Fri., April 26 –time t.b.a. Riparian Buffer Project, at Stourbridge Complex, Rte. 6, Honesdale. This is a great opportunity to observe (and possibly get your hands dirty) the next phase of this multi-year riverbank restoration project. After several years of site preparation (debris clearance, eradication of invasives, soil preparation), the time has finally arrived to do theplanting, of native trees and shrubs. TLRC is partnering with the Wayne Co. Conservation District, National Park Service, Boy Scouts and other organizations on this project. .

Sat, May 5 – The 5th annual “Towpath to Trail” Canal Clean-up and barbecue/pot luck lunch. Come meet with volunteers of the Wayne County Historical Society at Lock 31, Lock 31 House, one mile west of Hawley, PA on Rte. 6, for a morning of work (and fun) cleaning up a section of the former Delaware and Hudson Canal. We’ll set to work at about 9 am and continue until noon. Then while admiring the fruits of our labors, we’ll enjoy a barbecue and potluck lunch and hear about the exciting progress the Society is making to restore the Lock House and this section of the Canal, designated a local National Historic Landmark. Don’t forget to bring you rakes, mowers, weedwhackers and pruner!

Please RSVP by return email indicating your intention to join this worthwhile effort and indicate what you’d like to contribue to the pot luck.
