Lily Struble
Wallenpaupack Area High School
The Lackawaxen River Conservancy is pleased to announce that Lily Struble is the winner of The Lackawaxen River Conservancy 2024 Scholarship. Lily received her award of $500 at the Class of 2024 Scholarship Program at the Wallenpaupack Area High School. Lily will attend the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York, where she will major in Wildlife Science in preparation for a career in wildlife and environmental conservation.
An issue of great concern to Lily is the effect of climate change on agriculture. She cites extreme weather and urbanization as two multifaceted challenges that farmers face. She includes changes to farm practices that Do youTH help mitigate the growing threats to agriculture.
Lily is an outstanding student. She has excelled in a challenging program that emphasized science, history, technology, and environmental studies. She began her environmental science studies in the ninth grade.
Extracurricular activities played an important role in Lily’s high school career. Among her many activities was her role as editor-in-chief of Paupack Press, the Wallenpaupack Area High School’s newspaper. She also worked as a Paupack Volunteer, an organization that provides services to the school and local community. She was a WAHS Ambassador and greeted and guided guests to the school. She was also an attendee “citizen” at Keystone Girl’s State where she participated in a week-long mock government and learned about responsible citizenship and government processes. She attended the Drexel Environmental Science Leadership Academy, a week-long, hands-on experience studying and working in forest and lake ecosystems.
Lily is clearly adept at managing her time and her talents. In addition to her academic and extracurricular responsibilities, she worked for Woodloch Pines from 2021 to the present as a dining-room server and pantry supervisor.
Lily has been an asset to her school and her community. She has prepared herself well to move forward in her education, her career and in her contributions to conserving the environment.
