The Lackawaxen River Conservancy is pleased to announce that the Conservancy awarded two scholarships in 2014. Noah Pietraszewski of Honesdale High School received his $500 scholarship at Senior Class Night on June 10, and Carmen Francesco of Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona was awarded her scholarship at A Day by the River, a family and community event hosted by the Conservancy in Rowland on Saturday, July 26.
Carmen is currently a sophomore at Prescott College. She is looking forward to a career as an environmental educator. She was the recipient of The Lackawaxen River Conservancy’s $500 scholarship for graduating high school seniors in 2013. Carmen presented a slide show of her environmental program and activities this past year to the assembled group at A Day by the River.
Noah is attending Syracuse University where he is preparing for a career in environmental engineering. “Environmental engineers must educate others and develop technology to sustain our earth’s future.” With these words, Noah shares his view of the mandate to environmental engineers and his personal sense of responsibility to the world of tomorrow.
The Lackawaxen River Conservancy will offer two scholarships again in 2015. Students who are planning to pursue a career in environmental conservation and are graduating from a high school in the Lackawaxen Watershed or are in college and have graduated from a high school in the Lackawaxen Watershed are encouraged to apply.
